Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the top-streamed track within 6 months. This blend of reggaeton and pop music has not only brought people back to this genre, but also to Latin music in general. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish mostly, and four others in the year 2016. In 2017, during the peak of Despacito's fame the track was among 19 that mostly in Spanish have made it into the Billboard Top 100. By 2020 the number will increase to 41 songs in this category. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix of Despacito (2017) popular artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton artists, including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna together with Maluma for Medellin (2019). By 2020 a few reggaeton stars were complaining about their genre's shift towards the mainstream. But a fresh generation, such as Rauw Alejandro wanted to keep reggaeton evolving. His music often contained elements from different genres as well as electronic dance.
