Anna Paquin
Anna Paquin has been an actor in Canada as well as New Zealand for over a decade. Born in Winnipeg and born in Wellington Paquin made her acting debut as Flora McGrath in the romantic drama film The Piano for which she received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at age 11 which makes her the second youngest winner in Oscar history. Anna Paquin's full name was Anna Helene Paquin. Born July 24th 1982 at Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, she was the first Canadian born New Zealand actress. As a child, Paquin won the Academy Award for best support actress. Her role as the enthusiastic and lively character Holly Hunter played in The Piano (1993) earned her the award. In response to an open audition call and was selected for the part, she was cast in the role of Flora McGrath, the daughter of a mute Scottish piano player who moved from Scotland to New Zealand in mid-19th-century to be married. It was her first role at the age of nine and had no prior experience in acting. When she was a teenager her family left Canada and eventually to United States. Paquin played Jane Eyre's main character when she was a teenager in Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre (2000) and the lead role for the character in Fly Away Home (2000). Paquin portrayed Frankie Addams as a child in the television adaptation of Carson McCullers novel The Member of the Wedding. Paquin was also in the role of Queen of Spain in Steven Spielberg's 1997 film Amistad. She portrayed teenagers in Hurlyburly (1998), She's All That (2000) and A Walk on the Moon (2000). She portrayed groupie Polexia Aphrodisa on Almost Famous (2000).
